Text- 1Cor 6:1-20; 1 Pt 2:11
A pilgim is a visitor to a foreign land. At the time he visits or
sojourns in the foreign land, his pattern of life is what determines what the
people of the land would say about his home country. He is seen as a representative of his country in all things.
Characteristics of a Pilgrim:
·
He
was born and must have grown to some extent in his country
·
He is expected to be well acquainted with the norms and culture of his country
·
He knows he would return home one day
·
His
ascent and conducts at all times will always reflect his home land-Ezra
·
His
speech conversation will always give him away as a stranger and a foreigner
·
His
dressing is different from his host nation
·
His
attitude is also different
·
His ideals
and beliefs are first rooted in those things he has learnt from home
·
His
mentality is affected
·
His
style and approach to the issues of life
A pilgrim has two possibilities:
·
Affect
the land by his attributes or Be
carried away and let the land affect him-Ezra 9:1-3
A pilgrim is expected to be guided by his homeland’s moral laws- Ezra
9:10-12
Every child of God is a pilgrim to
the earth and as such are to be guided by the word of God-Josh 1:8
We will definitely return home one
day- Heb11:14-16
Our conducts on this pilgrimage
will determine our eternal destiny- Eccl 1214
The constitution upon which we
shall be judged is the word of God and not our earthly nations’ laws!
The World Vs the Word
There are certain conflicts between
the world and the world- for example what the world called:
“Unwanted pregnancy- abort it” is
what the Word calls murder (killing- abomination)
The world’s “gratification is to
the Word bribery- Ex 23:8
The world’s fashion is to the Word
seduction
The world’s gist (2Tim 2:16) is to
the Word slander
The world’s hatred is to the Word
murder
The world’s clubbing is to the Word
prostitution, riot 2Pt 2:13
The world’s party is to the Word
pleasure-Jms 5:5
The world’s smartness is to the
Word unfaithfulness
The world’s freedom of worship is
to the Word idolatry
The world’s emancipation is to the
Word disobedience to constituted authority
Are you a pilgrim and you are
influenced by the world rather that the Word?-Isaiah 40:8, 1Jn 2:15-17
The world is a system that is
contrary to the Word-righteosness-1Jn 3:7-8
A pilgrim may (though should not)
forget the homeland law just as some of us today but when he realizes this, he
should repent- Ezra 9:13-10:1
Put away the abominations and evil
acquisitions- Ezra 10:2-3
Harden not your heart-Ps 95:8
Open your heart to Jesus-Rev
3:19-22
Altar Call
Prayers
O Lord forgive me for forgetting my
divine identity
Show me Your abundant mercies and
bring me out from every mixed multitude
Help me to be separated unto you
alone in this strange land
Father give me utterance anytime I
am prompted to evangelize for Jesus
Holy Ghost fire consume ever thing
that is not compatible with my Zion nature in Jesus name
I shall fulfill my days on earth in
Jesus name
I shall finish my race strong and
well in Jesus name
